Rescue Stats

Losing your dog in the first place is where we try to focus on as local statistics show that the majority of dogs that are allowed to escape won't be found. Some fortunate ones end up with a pet finder and end up waiting in a shelter to be either saved or euthanized. See Education.

In the Puget Sound area approximately 34,000 cats and dogs were killed in shelters in just ONE year and about half of those were healthy pets. If we look at National statistics of approximately Ten Million animals going to some shelter, it is just heartbreaking.

We plead with the; Oh, they're just a dog, they'll find their way back thinkers and we race to educate all who care and want to help.

If You Find Your Dog Gone

  1. Lock down the house as fast as you can, get in the car with something your dog loves; kids, food, toys, dogs mate, Frisbee, etc.
  2. Use your voice, car sounds and smells. Your dog's nose and ears are much more powerful than his eyes are.
  3. Dogs rarely travel in a straight line. Their noses lead them in any direction. Look in between houses, in back yards and look especially where you see other animals.
  4. Keep up your search for at least four days. A dog will be hungry by then.
  5. Call all the local shelters, vets, schools and stores in the area and talk to neighbors especially kids out playing or on bikes. Show everyone a picture of your dog.
It's a great idea to have some phone numbers close to your phone. Speed is a huge key in finding your dog.

Signage

The majority of signs out there have small letters and are hand written. Remember: If you can't see a sign a half a block away and read everything on that sign within three seconds or less, your sign will not be effective. Use 6 inch Gothic letters black against white and say what you need to say in five words or less. Build your sign for daytime and not nighttime. People are too busy watching the road at night. Keep the detail information like: Breed, color, picture, date, age, etc., very small. People can't read all that anyway unless they pull over and stop.
